With Sheffield Pride only a few weeks away, the event is quickly coming together, the hard work of everyone involved is soon to pay off. The eagerly awaited main stage line up has finally been confirmed and announced for this years Sheffield Pride 2010 at Endcliffe Park on Saturday 26th June.
Once again the main stage line-up is as mixed and varied as possible. Those that say you can’t please all of the people have obviously never seen or heard the local and national talent performing on the main stage. From hundreds of applicants there are a total of 11 performers, excited about performing in front of this year’s Sheffield Pride crowd. Familiar faces such as Cavalli, who performed his camp, pop hits at South Yorkshire Pride 2008 and Out Aloud (Sheffield’s only lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender choir LGBT) make their return, while newer acts such as Kenelis (a lesbian rock band), The Dolls and James Leon (electro/pop) will provide something a little different on the day.
The year 2010 marks 40 years since the first ever gay pride marches took place in USA to celebrate the anniversary of the Stone Wall riots in June 1969.With this in mind, Sheffield Pride 2010 will be dedicated to ‘Pride over the ages’. The fabulous main stage will contain music and acts from across the last 40 years along with speeches and testimonials from individuals who have lived through the last 4 decades, celebrating the rights and freedoms we experience today due to the dedication and sacrifices that were made in the past.
Of course Sheffield Pride isn’t merely about the main stage; there is a wealth of different areas for people to visit on the day. This year sees the ever popular Age Uk Tea Tent where one can watch poetry while eating cream teas, the Co-operative Community area providing information and advice as well as workshops to encourage people to get involved with their community, the dance tent complete with scene DJs and the ever important bar provided by Outbar Leisure. A slight change comes with the return of T’other stage, providing a trans/woman/alternative space, which was successful at the South Yorkshire Pride event in 2008, a rainbow weddings tent organised by Boho Weddings and sponsored by Irwin Mitchell will provide information specifically catered towards LGBT civil partnerships while a larger selection of food, drinks and businesses in the market stalls area will create a fabulous atmosphere.
Sheffield Pride would also like to announce its first patron of the event. Becky Hayes, Hallam FMs sexy weekend DJ has committed her support to Sheffield Pride. Becky will be a spokesperson for the event in Sheffield and aims to support the growth of Sheffield Pride over the years to come.
‘I am so pleased to be involved with Sheffield Pride this year. Pride events are big in other cities and it’s great to see it building here in Sheffield too. It’s a great day out for everybody, not just an exclusive group. If you’ve never been before, give it a try!’ announced Becky Hayes
We are very excited to have Becky’s support and would like to see your support by coming along to the event on Saturday 26th June between 1pm-7pm! See you there! It’ll be fabulous!
